Basketball coaching is a fantastic opportunity for anybody to teach to their team the values of discipline. It is also a good way to teach them about the effectiveness of teamwork along with how to plan and form certain strategies.

It can be very handy having a good grounding in basketball but it can be done even with just knowing the basics of the game. There are many tips that can be taken from other types of sports that you can use in the coaching of your players too.

1. Do not try to praise your players by telling them they are better than what they actually are. It is far better to be upfront with the players. If they know where there good points and bad points are then they can try to improve their bad points more effectively.

2. If you are not truthful about their performances it can give them a false sense of security and make them think that they are better than what they actually are. This can lead to all sorts of problems when results do not go their way or they are dropped from the team. So you’re working hard to finally learn how to dunk a basketball. Oh, how rewarding it can be! Few things in sports beat the thrill of dunking the ball, especially one that takes place during an actual game. Unless you’re blessed with extraordinary height, it takes work to make it happen. It’s very possible if you work hard at it though. Here are some tips to help you in your quest.

1. If you’re at the point where you can reach rim, it’ll still take some work to dunk. One of the quickest ways to train yourself before making the jump is to try dunking with a tennis ball. It’s much easier to palm and is a great way to start out.

2. It’s important to both have leg strength and great endurance when learning how to dunk a basketball. By standing right under the basket and jumping without any kind of a running start, you’ll build both your legs and your endurance. Do fixed position jumps about 25 straight times, with no major rest in between jumps (a few seconds in between each jump tops).

3. Do squats. These build the quadricep muscles and act as a major source of leg strength.  Read more...

Baseball films are a different breed. While Football movies usually serve more of an inspirational purpose, baseball films usually have more of a comedic presence, or find a way to hone in on the nature of the game and why Americans love it so much.

Here are some of my favorite movies about baseball.

One film about baseball that I love is The Scout, featuring a young Brendan Frasier as a prodigal player who can pitch like it’s his job (it is) and hit balls out of the park with the best of them. Albert Brooks stars in this film as the scout who discovers this talent.

What list of baseball movies could possibly be complete without mentioning The Sandlot? The Sandlot summarizes everything we, as Americans, love about the great sport of baseball. This movie has it all and remains a classic to this day.

Another incredible baseball movie is A League Of Their Own, which portrays the story of an alcoholic ex-baseball star who manages an all girls baseball league for the wives of players whose husbands are away at war during World War 2.  Read more...

There are a multitude of films covering the topic or somehow involving American football, but the great ones are few and far between. Certain films about American football, however, have warranted much praise from critics and audiences alike.

In my opinion, here are the greatest football films of all time.

I will put The Blind Side on this list due to the sheer fact that it is an unbelievable true story. If you want to know the whole story about Michael Oher and his journey from the streets of Memphis to a star NFL offensive lineman.

I have nothing but fond memories of Varsity Blues, a coming of age comedy that exceeded most peoples expectations and somehow managed to leave its mark in the chronicles of football history movies. The West Canaan Coyotes left a lasting impression in my mind. Or maybe it was the whipped cream bikinis…

Friday Night Lights remains one of my favorite films, sports related or not. This film takes a look at high school football in Texas, where football runs through the blood of many communities. Players face the pressure of making it to the next level, and seeing a world beyond the turf.  Read more...

The role of a basketball coach is the best opportunity to instill the best values in the whole team and even get them to know the importance of hard work, discipline and cooperation. They must understand how to do good tactical plans and execution.

By virtue of their very training background in basketball, these coaches must have great experience in planning and tactical execution. Their basic information of the game gives them enough ideas of how to help the team succeed through leadership in their teams. Here is a look at some of the tips:

1. Honesty is a precious gift. Hiding the true facts about the game, their weak and strong points will not help them to become better players and for the general performance of the whole team. They must be told the truth and be coached to work harder and grow in their performance.

2. The coach must be able to discuss with them freely about their individual performance in order to develop the right skills. When it comes to sports movies, this past decade has churned out some pretty good ones. People love sports movies because they are uplifting, inspirational and fun. It is no surprise that they often perform well at the box office, and frequently garner praise from critics and audiences alike.

Here is my list of what I consider to be the best sports films released over the past 10 years.

When it comes to great movies about football from the last 2000-2009, one would be foolish not to include Disney’s Remember The Titans on their list. The true story of the first racially integrated football team stars Denzel Washington and the always great Will Patton.

Another football movie that was unbelievable (literally) is The Blind Side. This is definitely a movie worth seeing, and coming from someone who read Michael Lewis’ book of the same title, it does this incredible true story complete justice. Sandra Bullock also knocks it out of the park as the part of Leanne Tuohy.  Read more...

The New York Giants became one of 8 NFL teams to start the 2009 season with a 2-0 record after a big win against the Dallas Cowboys in Dallas on Sunday night.

The NFC East is one of the most competitive divisions in football and winning it will be an accomplishment without a doubt.

The Giants are in the NFC which is up for the taking, while there are a few teams that have opportunities to reach the Super Bowl, no team is head and shoulders above the rest this season.

There is much parody in the league and if a team has a bad week and one team plays hard, that team will receive a loss. The Giants must play their game, running the football and Eli Manning distributing the ball all over the field.

Perhaps the most impressive part about this game, aside from Eli Manning’s 4th quarter poise, was his use of his wide receivers. The Giants found themselves in a difficult position coming into the season.  Read more...
