Soccer is a fantastic sport, it is well loved the world over. 2 generations ago most Americans knew nothing at all about the sport, but today it seems like each child is involved with a soccer team or they at least have friends and classmates which are.

Fun soccer drills really can make the difference in whether a kid will remain involved in the sport. Sure each and every sport will have some grueling work outs involved with them, but keeping it fun will keep the kid interested and looking forward to practice.

A few of the hardest kids to work with are the youngest children. They’re easily distracted and don’t like to participate unless there is constant action. At this age the primary goal should be not to make soccer super stars but to simply teach team work and an interpretation of the game.

The man who has represented England’s National Soccer team for the past decade will get one more chance to play for the squad. Coach Fabio Capello has called on Beckham to come play even after announcing that Beckham’s international career was over.

Beckham recently became the leader for the most international soccer games played by any player in England’s history. He’s represented the soccer team in 115 games. This number would have been higher if he wasn’t hurt before the 2010 World Cup, which was upsetting for all supporters.

At this time England’s preparing for their next major event; the 2012 European Championship. Now that David is 35 years old, England won’t need him. They’re looking for young blood as they can’t keep living in the past. However, all of England must agree with Capello’s decision to give David the opportunity to say farewell and play one more international match.

Capello wants to see Beckham say his farewell in a final match at Wembley Stadium. If there’s anywhere it should be England’s home field is the perfect setting. The public knows of Capello’s plan, but they also have certainly been informed that Capello won’t take Beckham for any competitive matches moving forward.  Read more...

Soccer is a game about field position and possession and being able to defend effectively is a key element for each of these factors. There are four key elements that I have found to teaching young soccer players to defend effectively. Footwork is a key factor in getting young soccer players to defend effectively. Together with knowing when to commit to a tackle and when to hold position I find these are the two vitals elements to having a strong defence. These factors, I combine with knowing where the danger zones are on the field, and communicating with each other in order to create an impenetrable defence. I do not promote playing boring soccer with lots of players behind the ball, but if you can defend effectively then your team will be able to play the ball further up the field, thus creating more attacking opportunities.
