Very few people realize that the London inventor who invented foosball did it by playing around with a box of matches. Back in 1923, he was considered a soccer fanatic. He enjoyed the game so much that he felt like there must be some way to play the same game and create the same excitement indoors. One evening, after enjoying an especially intense game of soccer, he started fiddling around with a box of matches. It wasn’t long until he figured out how he could make his idea work, and the plans for a foosball table were born.
Even though he patented his idea right away, he never saw the foosball table mass produced before the patent expired. Another inventor saw the idea in 1937, worked on it and came up with a table very similar to the ones we know today.
This isn’t really soccer, because there is no running. They changed the name to foosball and created their own terminology. For example, there are the foos or extremists of the game, foosmen and foosball table. Read more...
The New York Giants have been a big part of American history and football spirit for many years, thanks to their best qualities: leadership and skill. They rank very highly in the NFL right now, and while they’ve had a history of some drama and injury, they’ve remained a very strong team throughout the years.
Since the very beginning, the Giants have progressed at a rapid rate, proving to be more than just an average team. They’ve gone above and beyond the call, raising money for both the homeless and unemployed of New York. They were one of the main teams to show that pro football was stronger than college football even when so many people were questioning that fact. Ultimately they crushed Notre Dame into the ground in their beginning years, proving that in fact pro football was superior.
From that point right up until 1979, however, the Giants have been ridden with difficulty. It got harder for them to win their games and they didn’t have much in the way of strong quarterbacks or players. This made for drama and divisiveness right up until Phil Simms was added to the team in 1979. Read more...
In 1953, a championship team was born: the Indianapolis Colts. Starting out in Baltimore, Maryland, the Colts began as the Baltimore Colts, playing in their home state. They didn’t end up in Indianapolis until 1984 where they played for many years at the Hoosier (now RCA) Dome. They have been named the horseshoes because of their logo and basic colors are blue and white, with the simple logo stamped on top.
When they first began, the Colts weren’t a winning team. They started out playing in Indianapolis as a struggling pro team and lost one year after another. A depression sank into the players’ morale and they finally picked a new head coach – Ron Meyer. Finally the Colts were able to see success. Right after Meyer was selected for the team, the Colts went on to win three games (the last three of the season).
When Meyer was coach, the Colts started win many more games than they had before. Sometimes they did lose, but ultimately they took home the greatest winning record of the NFL. In 1996, Bill Polian took over for Ron Meyer and started a new takeover of the team. He got rid of older players and selected new blood for the Colts. He also chose Peyton Manning, the quarterback who single handily marked a new era for the Indianapolis Colts. Read more...
Adidas have recently released a series of ‘miCoach’ gadgets that monitor heart rate, distance and speed when running. Unlike usual heart rate monitors, the data is not output on a watch; instead they pair with software downloadable for all smartphones.
What separates the miCoach gadgets from the popular Nike+ pedometer is that they do not pair exclusively with Apple technology. Although the software for the iPhone is likely to be the most popular, the devices will also pair with an array of mp3 players and hardware.
Instead of charging a high price for the software, it is free to download from app stores and the website; this will most likely prove popular as it incorporates GPS enabled smartphones to allow fitness training without the devices.
The software can be used on its own but the addition of heart rate and pedometer are much more effective in performance analysis, which Adidas hope will be an incentive to buy the full price gear.
The app analyses data from the GPS receiver, heart rate monitor and footfall counter to determine how effective your training is, it will provide on-the-go feedback that can instruct you to pick up the pace, slow down and will direct you through a predetermined, personalised training schedule. Recently there has been much speculation over the future ownership of Liverpool Football Club, most notably a possible buyout by Chinese businessman Kenneth Huang. Back in 2008 he was linked to a possible sale of the club but lost interest after its 650m valuation; the club is currently valued at 350m.
Chairman of Hong Kong based QSL Sports Group, Huang has the financial backing of a wealthy investment fund behind him. The move could see an end to Tom Hicks and George Gillett Jr’s controversial ownership of the club.
Due to their 237m debt, the owners are obliged by their bank to listen to any offers they receive. Although Huang has offered to buy the debt from RBS in order to seal the deal, the owners have told RBS that they are in negotiations with former football international and Syrian Businessman Yahra Kirdi, this is expected to be an attempt to prise more money from the Chinese.
Huang’s current offer would make no profit for Hicks and Gillett from the sale of the club which they bought in 2007 for 218.9m, they are reportedly hoping for an offer in the region of600m. Read more...
Why do you need air hockey tables in your home? Here’s why. When everyone gets together for the holidays or a special occasion, you don’t want to just sit around the television or spend the whole evening staring blankly into each other’s faces. And while some of the guys might enjoy viewing some sports on television such a choice might meet with groans and disapproving shakes of the head from the women. Sadly, what often happens with these gatherings is that everyone ends up going their own way and finding their own entertainment which defeats the purpose of the get together.
But air hockey tables can combat that because they are literally fun for everyone! Because they don’t require a lot of skill, strength, or speed, anyone can play. Grandmothers, small children, teenagers, even people with special needs who can’t play other types of arcade or competitive games can often enjoy a game on air hockey tables.
Parents who worry about their kids being a part of violent sports, such as football, don’t have to worry about that with air hockey tables. The only thing getting pushed and shoved in these matches is the puck. The chance for injury is slim to none. Read more...

Manchester United defender and Serbian Captain Nemanja Vidic has dismissed rumours that he intends on leaving the club. He has been repeatedly linked to big money moves abroad to Barcelona, Real Madrid and AC Milan.
The 28 year old says there was never any question about his future at Manchester United despite Jose Mourinho’s efforts to coax him to Real Madrid. Before the world cup a representative had said Vidic had “requested some time from United to think about things”, while Sir Alex Ferguson said he could not clarify the situation.
But soon after, the club’s chief executive David Gill revealed that Vidic had verbally agreed a long-term contract to remain at Old Trafford and says he has always wanted to stay at the club, “I don’t know why people think it was a difficult decision,” he said. “I always said I am happy here. I never spoke about my future. I know there was all this speculation but I never said I wanted to go. There was nothing new. I am very happy to be here.”
His new 90,000-a-week contract will make him one of the highest earning players on the squad and the extension will take his deal up to a massive 18.72m. Read more...
